Candle Collection

Evening! Hope you are well?

As the weeks have gone by into 2013 all areas of the UK have suffered from some sort of extreme winter weather. Snow, Ice & temperatures well into the negatives have hit us all. Whilst the snow on the ground is really pretty for a while, staying indoors can be a bit dull avoiding the freeze. As a huge fan of the relaxation that candles can bring, this post is all about my favourite candles that keep the winter nights indoors, more cosy & comfortable than dark & dreary.

Obviously a few safety tips should follow when lighting and enjoying the radiance of any candles - but we are all responsible adults here right? So, consider the surface on which your candle will sit, try not to leave your candles burning through the night. If you are asleep or if you have left them burning - who knows what could happen! Obviously following all this is a bit crazy if you are trying to relax - but it's worth it to avoid a potential fire.

A few other tips while we are here at the beginning; I like to keep a close check on the wick of the candle, and when it gets to near a centimetre long, it's time to trim it down. This helps burn the candle more efficiently as well as prevent 'sooting' which can leave all your surfaces including the candle's container covered in a black soot, which is not too appealing to the eye. As a general rule, I have found the cheaper the ingredients in the candle the more sooting will occur when burning, especially if the wick is left at a long length.

Yankee Candle Tart Burner | Various Price Ranges

Click here to see my top pick if you are looking for a tart burner!

Yankee Candle is now a really well known quality candle brand which is available on the high street. If you tend to go through candles like crazy, the tart burners & tart candles that go with the burner may just be for you. What you will go through quite a lot of though is the basic tea light, which you can get from a whole host of places, although of course Yankee recommend their own which will burn for four hours at least.

The tart burner works by using a tea light to heat the base of the wax tart which is placed above it on the top of the burner itself. The heat from the tea light will slowly melt the wax tart of your choice and turn to a very hot liquid which emits a great amount of fragrance (ideal for those scented candle lovers). Yankee candle sell a huge range of wax tarts which are around £1.50, but will give you a great amount of burning time, in comparison to your standard candle.

Yankee bring out different wax burners at different times of the year, suitable as great gifts or ornaments for the home - this one (pictured) is the only one I have ever needed, since about 3 years ago. When you are fed up with the wax tart you are using, let it cool and ply round the edges with a knife or spatular, and the wax tart should pop out. This means you can keep the tart you have just taken out, and then pop it back in when you begin to miss it.

Although I like a good floral scent every now and then, I am more of musky / fresh scent kind of gal. Beach Wood is a great subtle, but refreshing candle. I love how the jar candles flicker in the darkness, and look so cosy when burning. Yankee describes this scent as; 'Seasoned by the elements. . . this modern blend of vetiver, salt air and driftwood creates an intriguing fragrance.'

I love the smell of vetiver, it is has to be one of the best scents on earth (if you have ever smelt Tom Ford's GreyVetiver, you will know what I mean!) it's definitely one of the fragrances that you would have to pull me away from. Some of Yankee's candles are very overpowering for me, so I do like to stick to the subtler fresh scents.

I feel like Yankee Candles (even though American) are the UK's answer to Bath & Bodyworks Slatkin & co. candles and I would do A LOT to get my hands on a years supply of those.

These candles are the UK's own, and this adds to their amazing-ness. I received three tinned candles in Blush, Silent Night, &  Daisy Dip from my best friend for Christmas, and they are scented candles like no other. These are the first scented candles I haven't got a headache from, because the scents are uplifting not sickening. I ration these candles, as my 'occasion' candles. Blush is a really girly scent, think what the colour pink would smell like if it was a fragrance, Silent Night is a calming, blueberry scent perfect for bed time / evenings, and then Daisy Dip is the floral choice, but subtly floral.  Suitable for all different occasions, these really are great gifts and I am super happy to have received these, as I will be investing in more.

The best candles to have come out of the industry yet, everybody is buying into NEOM the luxury organics company. NEOM not only produces the best organic, and indulgent candles to burn in your home, but offer bath oils, hand washes & reed diffusers to add luxury to all aspects of your lifestyle. Yes, luxury does come at a price. Yes you have to be willing to appreciate the ingredients that are in these candles, but for a true candle lover, it will pay you back in glorious, inspirational scents and relaxing aromas. The best way I experience the luxury from NEOM is to try out the travel candles which are priced at £15.00 each. Made from vegetable wax, and essential oils the travel candles will burn for up to 20 hrs. Once you know your favourite, pick up the Home Candle which is a three wick burning candle which retails around £40.00 each (perhaps a pay day treat). The NEOM organics candles burn without releasing harmful pollutants, toxins or soot and it really does show in the quality of the candle when burning. Everyone should have at least one NEOM candle on their dresser.

What are your favourite candle brands, and when do you like burn them?  Let me know below!
